India opens Drug Inspection Office in China

In  November 2008, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has opened its first office in Beijing, China with the goal to strengthen the safety, quality, and effectiveness of food and medical products produced in China for export to the United States. Now, India wants to open its first drug inspection office on 01 March 2013.

The plan is that the office will host four drug inspectors who will be in charge of inspecting manufacturing sites and check if the comply with good manufacturing practices (GMP).

"We will post Indian drug inspectors in China to send a clear message that Chinese drug firms are under watch. We will gradually ask China to only allow drugs exports from manufacturing sites which have been inspected by Indian drug inspectors. We want to ensure safety, efficacy and quality of Chinese drugs," Dr Singh told the Times Of India news.
